Disc Problems
(These are serious!)

Disc problems usually lead to pain. If a disc is bulging onto a nerve the pain and numbness can be severe and is a serious condition. However, even if the disc isn't directly bulging onto a nerve, and therefore not causing severe pain, its shock absorbing duties are lessened and other problems may develop in time. Sometimes these consist of an increase in joint pressure and possibly pain, and may lead to premature wear and tear. Most disc conditions managed by conservative care respond well, although some don't and are referred on for surgery. However, always try conservative care, which includes chiropractic, first!

Problems of discogenic origin must be properly diagnosed and may require further tests, such as an MRI scan, to truly find out the extent of the problem. Treatment is usually successful for pain relief, but generally always requires a period of ongoing rehabilitative care after the symptoms have gone. Don't take disc problems lightly - see a qualified chiropractor as soon as you can, as these are always serious spinal problems.
